Angola USA Youth Ambassador: Education and Cultural Diplomacy

HELLO!!! WELCOME TO MY PAGE

My name is Ritika J.R. Bhullar, and I am happy to share my story with you. I hope that my story can inspire you to do the things you love to do and prepare you for these formative wonder years of middle school transitioning to high school. We experience a lot of changes with our mind, body, and thoughts. Sometimes it's challenging to understand these changes happening to our age group. That's why it's important for us to create a safe space among each other where we can share our stories, support and inspire each other, and learn from each other. Each day when the sun rises, I see the color of the sky; some days it's grey, other days it's pink, and most days it’s blue. Regardless of the changes, the sun remains constant even when the clouds cover it from our perception. Similarly, we are like the sun; no matter the circumstances, we know that we are greater than what life throws at us. That's why it's important to reach out and connect with your close friends and build focus groups and safe spaces to nurture and support each other. Perhaps these friendships will be for a reason, a season, or a lifetime, but each phase serves an important purpose in helping shape who we are and prepare us for where we are going.

In summer 2024, when I returned from sleepaway camp at Andover-Phillips Academy, I felt empty inside. I was missing the friends that I made and the bonds that formed among us. After a week passed during my time at home, I decided to ride my bike around the neighborhood. I did that at random times in my neighborhood. I noticed that several girls my age were just sitting on the front porch of their house; some of them were rocking in a hammock, others were playing with their dogs. They look like my age.

The following week I rode my bike around the neighborhood and finally gathered the courage to say hello and make small talk. I spoke with 3 girls in my neighborhood. They were also returning from sleepaway camp. We decided to exchange phone numbers and we texted for about 1 week Finally, we had a pizza and movie night on a Friday evening at my home. We ate pizza and laughed and talked a lot about random things. We enjoyed it so much we decided to meet often throughout the summer. One week before school was about to begin for Fall of 2024, we decided to form an all-girls group. We meet on weekends, take walks through the woods in our neighborhood, and sometimes visit each other’s houses or, other times, the mall, but the most important part of this meeting is to share our thoughts and stories. It was then the Springhill Girl Club was formed. From November 2025 to present, we have met on weekends to help each other study for SSATs, discuss what schools we are applying for, and share our dreams of our dream school. Now we are waiting for the results.
